AUTUMN MOON CELLARS

 2003 CHARDONNAY, CARNEROS

The small yields of the 2003 vintage gave us concentrated and intensely flavored fruit. This shows nicely in the 2003 Chardonnay. All of the fruit comes from the Carneros region of Napa Valley.  An extended growing season characterized by cool evenings resulted in mature, well balanced fruit.

The wine is 100% barrel fermented, adding an elegant vanilla and toasted oak component.  Great effort goes into balancing the amazing fruit flavors of Carneros Chardonnay with a balanced oak barrel extraction.  Cold barrel fermentation retains the pure fruit flavors in the wine while imparting just the right amount of oak.  This allows the wine to have great mouth feel and to pair extremely well with a variety of foods.

100% of the wine undergoes malolactic fermentation to give the wine a buttery richness and then the wine spends nine months on the lees in barrel for roundness and texture.  The style emphasizes the underlying quality of the fruit, highlighted by ripe citrus and tropical notes, supported by good acids and a rich, silky mouthfeel.
